Jesuit Communications Foundation in Manila recently won top honors in the
Philippines' prestigious annual Catholic Media Awards. JCF got the prize
for Best MTV for their production of "Pananagutan," a song by Fr. E.
Hontiveros, SJ. The MTV was shot by Sherman So, directed by David Hucom
and edited by edited by Jay Halili. They also took the prize for Best
Radio Program in Counseling and Public Service for "Pasakalye," produced
for Radio Veritas by two Jesuit scholastics, Emmanuel Alfonso, SJ and
Francis Alvarez, SJ.
Members of Catholic communications organizations from throughout the world
met in Rome during November to form the new international Catholic media
organization, SIGNIS (which now replaces Unda and OCIC). JESCOMEAO
Special
Assistant, Mr. Augustine Loorthusamy was elected Vice President of SIGNIS.
Indonesian Jesuit Fr. Alex Soesilo is now the Secretary of the Indonesian
Bishops Conference's Commission for Social Communication. One of his first
objectives is to establish an electronic news service for the Conference.
Fr. Ruedi Hofmann is now in Portugal, recovering from a leg injury last
year and learning Portuguese. He plans to return to East Timor by
Easter. He will then be able to assist the East Timorese Church in
printing and broadcasting projects.
