In September, Augy Loorthusamy, Special Assistant to JESCOMEAO, conducted
a series of communication training courses for the Church in Sri Lanka.
These sessions were a follow-up to a previous series including bishops,
priests and religious, seminarians and seminary professors, church workers
and lay professionals. The underlying theme was the use of
communications to establish peace in the country. augyl@tm.net.my
The Jesuits in Taiwan, in cooperation with Catholic schools and
other religious congregations, have embarked on a major project called
"Education for Life," aimed at creating a values curriculum for
Taiwanese middle and high school students. In addition to a
textbook, teachers will be provided with a multimedia kit for each lesson.
Each kit will include three short videos: dramatized, reflective, and
musical. Each audio-visual kit is designed to start discussion and
sharing on a particular topic. Kuangchi Press and Kuangchi Program
Service are cooperatively producing these videos. The series, to be
completed in stages over a period of months, may be adapted for use by
educators in other parts of Asia. For more information: kuangchi@seed.net.tw
Kuangchi Program Service is presenting a weekly series of TV
documentaries and educational programs on social issues, including AIDS,
unwanted pregnancy, care for the dying and terminally ill, tobacco abuse,
illiteracy, etc. This series, sponsored by a Taiwan foundation,
re-packages previously produced programs and broadcasts them to the
audience on a public service channel. kuangchi@seed.net.tw
